Breakfast of Champions

Here's what I had for breakfast today. Actually, it was lunch and dinner too.

Some baked beans, 3 cheese scalloped potatoes and one of the most delicious steaks I'd ever eaten, courtesy of Sonic and his contacts as work. It was even worth grilling it outside with snow falling on my head. I used Marbella's soy and ginger marinade, you'll have to bug her for the recipe, I think it's a secret.

Here's the message that came with the steak...

You have received Meyer Natural Angus (MNA) beef today. I know the experience you’re going to have eating the steaks will be excellent!

Included in your shipment are Meyer Natural Angus Prime steaks. You will get a variety of steaks to try. Here is a little information that will make your experience as good as possible.

These are Natural steaks. We have never allowed antibiotics or hormones to be used at any time. The end result is steaks that have been created the old fashioned way to deliver full beef flavor and incredible tenderness. Since they are natural, they contain less water than conventionally raised beef. As a result, your MNA steaks will cook a little quicker than typical store bought steaks.

A great tip is to allow your steaks to rest for 5 minutes after grilling. If you can wait that long, you’ll have an even better steak!

Real Angus is what we use. There are many Angus options out there today. So many that very little of the product called Angus today actually is Angus. There is big demand for good reason. Genuine Angus beef is incredible beef. It’s simply the best breed for creating a superior steak. MNA only uses source verified Angus beef. No imitation Angus in our beef.

USDA Prime meats are rarely found in markets, reserved almost exclusively for the nation’s award-winning restaurants and steak establishments. This is beef nirvana -- USDA Prime steaks and filets, hand trimmed and hand selected, with sublime tenderness and generous marbling that melts throughout each cut for incomparable flavor. It has abundant marbling and is excellent for dry-heat cooking (i.e., roasting, broiling, and grilling). USDA Prime beef (about two percent of graded beef) has more marbling, so it is the most tender and flavorful grade of beef available.

In grading beef, marbling is a key factor not only for determining quality but it also translates into a better eating product. This Prime Beef will have an abundant amount of marbling, or fat, throughout. During the cooking process this marbling will melt helping to keep your steak or filet juicy and full of flavor. Best of all, marbling is forgiving during the cooking process and actually helps you deliver a more consistent, higher-quality steak.

These MNA Prime steaks were aged a minimum of 21 days. Though seldom done, aging beef is extremely important. Naturally aging beef improves the tenderness and flavor of the meat so that when properly cooked it will deliver an exceptional eating experience.
